Visit to the Marina beach

If there is one place in chennai you want to definitely go atleast once if not more ..it would be 'marina beach'. For those who claim it to be the world's longest or second longest beach..It is notthe case..According to wikepedia the marina beach is just 12kms long while Praia do cassino is the world's longest with the shoreline being 240kms..and several others in contention for being longer than marina..
The Marina Beach is a beach situated along a 12 km shoreline in the city of Chennai, India along the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean. The beach begins near Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south. Its famous attractions include Statues of Legends like Mahatma gandhi,Sivaji ganesan,Kannagi,Thiruvaloor & Memorials for M.G. Ramachandran,C.N. Annadurai (former Chief ministers).
Unlike other beaches of Miami or California, Marina is for those who are searching for a different experience. You won't see people in their bathing suites or ladies in bikinis here but the awesome sunrise and sunset will take your breath away. I went there some days before with my cousins and found the experience really exciting to say the least..Its no exaggeration..the proof is right above this post !!
The only downside of the visit was rediscovering our plastic culture plaguing some parts of the beach along with other wastes and pollutants. It has come to my knowledge that some talks of handing the authority regarding the cleanliness of the beach is to be given to a private firm. My thoughts on that are "Bravo!!"..There are'nt any charges on the visit to the beach for the time being..I would suggest introduction of a very nominal entry fee and seperating the food stalls and other such small time business from the main beach as that is the reason of waste disposal near the shore.
